ABOUT THE EVENT:
On Tuesday, September 29th, 2020, Phoenix House of New York/Long Island will host a virtual event, “Noontime Restorative & Rejuvenating Yoga and Meditation”. Attendees will participate in a chair yoga and meditation class taught by world renowned yoga instructors Colleen and Rodney Yee to benefit Phoenix House in our effort to weave integrative health practices into the services we provide clients through our Holistic & Wellness Program.
Rodney and Colleen bring their decades of yoga practice experience to us having traveled around the world sharing the message and practice of yoga. They are well-respected within the yoga community and have been featured in numerous publications including The New York Times and Vogue. Participants of their yoga retreats have included notables like Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz. They also work with Donna Karan’s Urban Zen Foundation which brings yoga into hospitals.
Through this virtual event, we will provide this restorative experience for participants while raising awareness and financial support for Phoenix House’s Holistic & Wellness program that will include yoga, meditation, exercise and emphasis on healthy plant-based eating. This curated experience lets participants experience a Holistic & Wellness Program activity while making similar experiences possible for the clients we serve.
We are six months into the COVID-19 pandemic and health experts worry that isolation, stress and social distancing are leading to a spike In substance abuse. Yoga is increasingly being used in substance abuse treatment programs and throughout recovery to help prevent relapse, reduce withdrawal symptoms and drug cravings, and provide a healthy outlet to cope with potential triggers and daily life stressors.
